Musick in Theory and Practice
This project is an ongoing book project that attempts to rewrite the theory of music in terms that incorporate astrology, mathematics, magick and symbolism. I began the work whilst studying music and I wanted to convey the path that I had taken, the methods of learning I had developed and some of the conclusions I have reached. This does not approach the material in a conventional manner but rather incorporates and re-examines the esoteric concepts of Greek musical theory, astrological and mathematical corespondences and narrative structure.
The project is composed of five books that cover a range of musical theory and history.
I.
The Book of Substance, a studious dissemination concerning the nature of sound and acoustic philosophy.
II.
The Book of Form, a scholarly history that examines the structure of musical notation.
III.
The Book of Intervals, a study upon the nature of Astrological harmonics and the twelve tone scale.
IV.
The Book of Scales, a dissemination of that which concerns the nature and formation of musical harmonious scales.
V.
The MUSICA FABULA, a discourse concerning the mythological aspects of musical structure pursuant to the form of narrative.
"Musick in Theory and Practice" attempts to unify narrative, music and symbolism; this means that music can be successfully pinned to the esoteric details of Alchemy, Tarot, Divinatory Systems, Gematria and Numerology, Jungian Archetypes, Mythology, Gods, Animals, Plants, Precious Stones, Magical Artifacts, Perfumes, Astrological Symbolism, Elements, Runes, Colour and Direction. From this undertsanding a new way of looking at music can be discovered and employed in the study of musical composition and theory.
